With all the talk of the new notch in the iPhone 8 and the transition to OLED, would you purchase an iPhone that completely lacked a screen and was simply controlled via Siri?

This would allow long battery life in a thinner frame as the display is often the main source of battery drain. Texts could be sent via Siri, calls initated and Google Searches conducted all without lifting a finger. For the rare time you may wish to play a game, the device can AirPlay to an Apple TV and use the TV display instead.

Thoughts?

Sorry but that just doesn't sound right. How are you going to watch movies and look at photos on the move or share stuff with friends.
You are denying a smart phone of one of its major functions.
How are you going to browse the internet or shop on amazon or eBay. How are you going to flick through posts on Macrumours?

The disadvantages are endless.
Crazy idea

Dude this thread is the equivalent of self-immolation.

This is a great idea. I’m going to begin conditioning my coworkers to get used to the Siri-only iPhone.

It's a great idea, Apple should also remove the camera.

The removal of the camera was actually my idea for an upcoming iPhone NSA Edition. For those who are security conscious, the lack of cameras on the device can help to prevent a live video feed being sent to the government.

Could you imagine how long it would take to listen to all the Google results when you're searching for something? And how annoying is would be having to speak every single thing you want to accomplish on the phone? Probably not or you wouldn't have started this thread.

Just realised you're the one who thinks a fan should be included in a phone. And now you want a smartphone without a camera for those who are paranoid?

Whatever your day job is, don't give it up to be an inventor.

Step 1: Add files via computer. Remember, it's the central hub
Step 2: Memorize local files
Step 3: Repeat requests to Siri 5 times.
Step 4: Imagining that video is better than the real thing. Right?

I'll do you one better. An Apple Watch minus the screen. Has all the features of your screen-less iPhone but with the added ability of Siri saying the time aloud whenever you raise your wrist.

If Siri didn’t suck (and I really mean that), maybe. Siri is about the only thing I wouldn’t mind completely losing on my iPhone, as it functions today.

Excellent idea. Make it out of the wood of your choice, completely seal it with wireless charging and no openings. Now it's waterproof and will float. You can use it in the shower, pool or ocean. And it always floats to the surface. Great if you drop it in the toilet. :)

Lol that’s pretty good if you’re joking (I hope you are)

Siri can also describe pictures to you on your social media feed:

“Betty2117 is wearing a red dress in front of a yellow car while taking a selfie”

Paranoia has set in as well?

If one was going to follow the logic of the OP they should make a screen less tv with voice interface. You could tell it what to play. Heck, I watch a large percentage of my "tv" on my phone anyway.

Uh.

I don't even use Siri as it is. Actually it kind of pisses me off that Apple puts so much R&D into a feature that's fairly worthless and isn't even fun to use. Even if it worked, it wouldn't be fun to use.

Siri would comment the movie in real time, describe the photos...

No, crazy having a device for that... maybe it would make sense some kind of doped AirPods capable of doing more than playing music without the need of being connected to any device. Only with music, messaging tools, reminders, calendar, etc..
