Not very interested in the phablets, I wish my 13 Mini was even smaller.

If Apple continually fail to offer a smaller iPhone then I guess one day I won’t have any choice but to get a huge replacement, but for now Apple will get no more iPhone money from me for another year. That is their ideological intransigence costing the company money again. As if they’ll miss it, or care, I know.

As an owner of two iPhone Plus models, I really hate to see it going away. For older folks like myself, being able to have a large screen without being forced to pay hundreds more was perfect. I'll probably keep my 16 Plus an extra year because of that.

So tired of the constant yearly size increases. Who’s asking for bigger and bigger phones at this point? Just get an iPad if you want a huge screen. For the love of god give me a small screen iphone again. I don’t need a huge slab in my pocket.
I am. I'm 50 years old now, my vision is getting worse, I appreciate a large screen and would gladly try out even larger ones.

Well, i'm 61 and got used to pull out reading glasses, when something written gets too small.
Even on the 12 Pro i sometimes need using reading glasses. Get used to it, it won't get any better. ;)
I simply prefer a smaller device in the pocket, the glasses are already there!

Yeah I have progressive lenses already so I know it's only downhill from here as far as vision.
Not always the case. I wore glasses for distance for many years. About two years I stopped. Only wear them when I go the movies or if I drive but as I do not have a car, that is not too often. Vision often stops getting worse and even improves with age. I do not require reading glasses.

Honestly it’s so weird that sales of the Plus are supposedly not great. Most of the people I know with non-pro iPhones have Plus models, and I don’t think they’re the type of people who would go for an Air IMO (unless it’s priced around the same as the Plus)

I have no intention to upgrade until my wife wanted the Pro model. I was going to get her a 16 model, but she said that she doesn't want a big phone that is too heavy for her. So I show her my 14 Pro so she can see the size of it. She likes my 14 Pro and wanted one. I told her that they're no longer selling the 14 Pro. 16 Pro had just been released. She didn't want to spend any money. So I gave her my 14 Pro and I got the 16 Pro Max. She's loving the 14 Pro model and is impressed with the cameras. At this point in time, I won't be upgrading for a long, long time. I have other plans to do with my money than to spend it on electronics or whatever. We both have the M3 Pro MacBook Pro 16 inch. We're set for a good while for now.

"a metalens is a thin and flat lens with microscopic patterns etched onto it that can focus light more precisely"

Sounds at first like a type of Fresnel lens, but the smaller patterns put it into a different category.

Makes me wonder if metalenses could replace the regular camera lenses on the rear of the phone, to reduce the thickness of the camera bump.

Is it just me or does it seem like every year Apple have new "Scratch Resistant Anti-Reflective Display" but every year I seem to have light scratches on my phone. I don't really know what causes them as my keys are never in the same pocket 🤷‍♂️

I buy used/refurbished 13 mini iPhones and wouldn’t mind Apple having a 17/18 mini even if they build it with a 4" display. I would buy that. Mini Pro would be a dream.

We waited years for Apple to build the mini after the 5s.
We are patient. 😁

Good question. Happens to me too, though I've been putting screen protectors on my iPhones for years so I can replace them if the scratching gets too bad, though so far it hasn't. I think sometimes our phones experience a little rough treatment, including just setting them face down on a surface we think isn't abrasive but is (all it takes is one grain of sand or whatever), and we don't notice or forget about doing it.

But it sounds like you're implying you replace your iPhone each year, so if the scratches are only light throughout your year of using the phone, it doesn't seem like much of a problem?

If I wanted to own an iPad, I'd buy an iPad. A 'phone' needs to fit in a pocket/purse easily and be comfortable to hold. At some point they get too big and become counterproductive.
True for many people, though the sales figures I was able to find say the iPhone 13 mini accounted for only about 3% of iPhone sales over its lifetime, and the iPhone 12 mini before it accounted for only about 3%-5%, depending on whose figures you look at. But of course those figures don't help people who reasonably want a smaller iPhone.

So the iPhone SE series seems to be what Apple considers a workable middle ground for size, though it's only a little smaller than a stock non-Plus/Pro iPhone.

Hate this trend line.

Have to admit I spent some time using a Razr+ 2024 on a recent trip, mostly for giggles and because I could. I'm not an android aficionado so the experience wasn't familiar at all which of course impacted my experience. But the hardware? If it ran iOS I'd own one. The crease was "fine" and frankly not very visible most of the time, the exterior screen was cool and useful, and when folded not appreciably thicker than my 16 Pro in its case.

My hands are on the larger side and I think the constant screen size increases are a little much. Also do we really need 5+ iPhone choices in a store, if you include the previous year models?
