Since iOS 17, my iPhone (13) storage is increasing after every WhatsApp backup.

iCloud Drive is doubling the amount of local space taken after the first backup, and then adding 20gb after every additional backup, until my storage is full.

The only solution to get some free space again is rebooting my device.

Anyone heard of this problem? Any suggestions?

Okay, I erased everything from my phone, and restored a backup.. but didn’t help..

Pretty weird… hopefully 17.1.1 of 17.2 will address this issue.

Hey @fam0us did you ever figure this out? I've been facing the same problem since iOS 17. I started noticing my iPhone storage was completely full one day and also got a notification that WhatsApp couldn't complete the backup because I had no space left.

I noticed iCloud Drive had consumed ~124GB of data, which is way more than I even have in my Drive. I rebooted and watched iCloud Drive completely disappear and take up no space shortly after the reboot.

But the issue keeps coming back it was only yesterday I connected it with it being the WhatsApp backups that seem to stick as space used by iCloud Drive. I have ~12GB of data and daily backups inside WhatsApp, so it looks like it's increasing by around that amount daily (until I reboot).

So did you figure out any permanent fix or find others with the same problem?

Hey. There is a similar threat

I still have the problem, unfortunately.

The only thing I haven’t tried is iTunes restore (the iOS software will be reinstalled then), but I barely got time for that.

Thanks for the link.

Yeah, no time for re-install, and hope it helps. Apple should figure this out, glad not to be the only one. Over the recent years we've become accustomed to not having to reboot the phone for weeks, or more like reboot it when a new OS update is out than anything else.

For now, I'm just rebooting my phone every few days and hope Apple figures this out. Takes 30 secs or less.
