iPhone stuck in recovery mode after 8.1 update

It shows the iTunes logo and the white chord telling me to connect to iTunes, when I do it says the phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Any idea how to fix this or do I just have to restore the phone? Luckily I backed up to icloud recently.

I've got this with my 4S.
Each time the 8.1 update gets to the end then hits an error.

I'm in the ame boat. I downloaded 8.1 at 2 PM today and my phone got stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it out. Totally pissed. Scheduled and appointment with the GB tomorrow
