iphone taking sooo long to sync?

My iphone 3g is already up and running since this morning, I've added contacts, music, movies, etc etc

but now it's taking forever to sync( and I'm only syncing 1 song and a ringtone! )

what gives?

i think upon 1st or 2nd sync attempts it does a backup and I've noticed the backups take a while to complete
