i updated my mac computer ..OS X El Capitan version 10.11.4...and it screwed up my texting on my iPhone 5
i just use my phone number not my email address .i logged out of my apple ID..and logged back in but that didn't help..it keeps saying..Waiting for activation...i know its probably something simple to do..I appreciate any help

Try logging out of iMessage and FaceTime (or even remove your iCloud account completely) on your iPhone. After you're all signed out, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Try signing into iMessage after it boots back up and see if you get any further..... if that doesn't do anything last resort is do a complete restore (do NOT restore a backup - just start fresh, your stuff is all up on iCloud anyway, just remember to pull your photos/videos off via USB if you're not using iCloud Photo Library) and see if that works.
 
I don't think a complete restore will be necessary here. Try signing out from iMessage and Facetime and App store and iCloud. I think you will have your solution by then.
