iPhone texting through MacBook

Hello,

Before any of you mention "search is your friend" - I have already had a look on various websites but my 'skillz' are no good.

Anyway, I have an iPhone 3G (UK) £35 pcm and a MacBook (old style) and I was wondering if there is a way to text with my iPhone through my MacBook - I used to do it with an old Sony Ericsson.
