Well at least in my case.

I'm tired of hearing people on the news rip the iPhone for its high price tag... or people giving me crazy looks when they think I dumped a load of money for this device. But when I break it down, I'm actually SAVING money!

I purchased the XV-6700 from Verizon a while back, thinking it was a nicely made phone. After all of my discounts for locking in a 2-year contract and being a long-time subscriber, I still had to pay $299.99 for the phone!!! The cheapest voice/data plan you can get through Verizon is $79.99/month... and that doesn't even include text messaging! Averaging about 100 text messages a month, I got their cheapest add-on, which was $10 for 500 messages. This comes out to a monthly bill of $89.99/month.

With Cingular, I'm basically getting the same services for only $59.99/month. (You can argue that I'm getting 300 less text messages, but I won't even come close to going over 200). So in the end of a 2-year contract, saving $30/month, that comes to a total of $720 in savings. Just enough to cover for the price of my iphone.

Now here's the beauty of it all... According to current ebay postings, I can get approximately $150 for my XV-6700!!! So at the end of the day, switching to the iphone has saved me moolah! (Not to mention I no longer have to purchase the Ipod I was in the market for.)

Nice vignette. :) Is there anything so far you miss from the more versatile WM device, or are you pretty much in pure iPhone bliss? What were you syncing the WM device with, and what are you using now?

The Sprint plan I have been using costs twice as much as my iPhone plan.

There is absolutely nothing I miss from my WM5 device!!! I remember after 5 days of using the phone, I said to myself, "I can't wait until Apple gets in the Smartphone business, so that someone will finally makes these things usable!"

    Right.

Not to mention, you are able to do more things on the iPhone, in a better and more enjoyable manner, than all other phones.

The useability benefit alone is worth the price tag.

congrats. i was already subscribing to the 200 texts for $5/mo, so upgrading to the unlimited data only cost me an additional $15/mo. i also decided to sell my razr and made $110 from it, helping to deflect the total cost of the iphone. i'm paying more with the iphone, but i'm doing a lot more, too. email wherever i am, and quick access to macrumors. it's great!

actually i was a cingular subscriber before the iphone and the new data plan gives me the same thing cheaper. I save about 15-20 a month that i would have been paying if either there was no iphone and i hadn't gotten one. That alone saves me $360 -$480 bux and the phone i bought before that was close to $200 bux. If i sell that for half, really my iphone is free.

or that's what i keep telling myself.

Don't you feel silly bragging about how you were throwing money away, and now you're excited because you're burning less money than you did before? Did you really have to wait for a phone before you decided to save money on your calling plan?
