To be honest, it's not often that someone needs to time seconds and the stopwatch works perfectly well for that.

I disagree-there are many times when one would want to time in seconds, and also get an alert when the timer is finished (which you can't do with the stopwatch). The only workaround is Siri, which is fine if you're in a quiet environment, but that isn't always the case.
