Hello,

First of all, I'm not sure if it's ok to post this. Second of all, please don't ban me if it is..

We're soon going to the US, more specif to NY, we will be staying at Times Square and as Apple addicts were wondering if we can buy an unlocked iphone there, which we could use here in Europe. What's the average price for them, where to get them, and is there something fishy about it?

Thanks!

sadly the only place to get fully unlocked iPhones is France at the moment, and they are priced at 999euros

if you were to get a US iPhone, it would work on O2 in the UK, after being activated (can be done using a couple of bits of free software)

the Price will be $400 and you can buy it from any Apple or AT+T shop.

i think technically speaking, you should pay 17.5% tax when you enter the UK again... so the choice is yours!

otherwise, you can buy a fully unlocked iPhone of either UK or USA ebay, this is what i did, and its really good.

You can buy an iPhone from the NY Apple store and unlock it by yourself... (in a few days)

Pspsully from DEV TEAM confirmed that v1.1.3 has a new baseband !!!

The software to unlock OTB v.1.1.2 is coming!!!

Stay tuned!

But then if I buy it in NY in a normal store, don't I have to buy the abonnement aswell? (that I don't want of course)

You can also get them in Bangkok... fully unlocked with 1.1.2. I paid about £280 or so for mine (about $500)

i would never buy a high end phone in bangkok, again.
from my experiences it's usually fake. even if it looks reaaaaallly real.

but back to the question.

you can buy a phone from any at&t or apple store without having to activate it at purchase.
the only hick-up is you will have to wait until the new firmware comes out so that the development
team can complete their hack of the current firmware.. so if you can wait a little while grab one!

WOW !
Brought back a 4 1/2 year old thread.
I'm sure the thread starter has come and gone by now.

And grey market IMEI unlocks are quite cheap for some phones.
