I'd like to see your iPhone upgrading journey. Do any of you like to upgrade your phone only when Apple drops support.

If so, has anyone gone from iPhone 2g to 4 to 6 to 11?
OR from 3GS to 5S to 11?

Yearly upgrader since the first iPhone.
Had everyone every year, except the SE-series, the 8 series (since there was also the X released) and the non-Pro models since the Pro were a thing.

In detail, I went:

2G
3G
3GS
4
4S
5
5S
6
6S Plus
7 Plus
X
XS Max
11 Pro Max
12 Pro Max
13 Pro Max
14 Pro Max
15 Pro Max
16 Pro Max
17 Pro Max + Air

🤪

This question gets asked a lot, so I'll be brief (for me).

I upgrade when I want something and the finances to do it are available. Occasionally need will factor in, but most of the time what I want takes care of what I need in spades. I do not trade in devices. I keep them.

Upgrade path:

2007: Sanyo Katana
2009: HTC Touch Pro
2012: iPhone 5
2015: iPhone 6+ (February), iPhone 6s+ (September)
2020: Pixel 3a XL
2021: iPhone 11 Pro Max.

My current iPhone is still the 11 Pro Max.

There's no rhyme or reason to my phone switches. Sometimes I switch because I just simply want to - other times because I wreck my previous phone.

I used to be a RIM Blackberry nut, and changed phones the day that new models came out.

With iPhones:
1. iPhone SE First Gen, kept it for about 18 months and wanted to upgrade to a larger screen
2. iPhone 8 Plus, bigger screen! Kept it for 4 years almost to the day. I decided to upgrade from this bad boy because the 13s looked real good
3. And it was! iPhone 13 for maybe 2 years or so, until Sept 2023 when I dropped it and both the front and back glass shattered
4. A Motorola RAZR 2023 folder! Pretty fun, very practical, but an undroid nevertheless. This one was knocked off a music stand, and I found myself suddenly owning . . .
5. My current iPhone 16e, which has been in my pocket since March 12 of this year.

I think my favorite of the lot was the 8 Plus.

I sent you a private message. I do upgrade and I keep my iPhones as I upgrade. During this process I decided to start building my collection. I enjoy using as well as maintaining the devices I have.

iPhone 5>5s>SE1>XR>SE2>SE3 and 16e. I bought a 17e and I could have used it to replace my 16e but I gave it to a friend instead

Generally when support is dropped. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that I picked up at launch. Its on iOS 26, performance and battery life are meh (original battery).

I likely be buying the 18 Pro or whatever. outright so I can stick it on a cheap pre paid like Visible or something.
