iPhone Upgrade Program Question

I have been trying to find some answers or advice to with my question.

My question is if I sign up for the iPhone upgrade program for the first time this year to purchase the iPhone 8 can I do so beforehand so that I am set for preordering when they go live? Do I have to wait until preordering is available before I sign up?

You sign up when you get the phone. As far as I know, yes, you will have to wait for pre-ordering to sign up.
