Last year I bought my iPhone 13 pro max with the apple credit card and chose monthly payments. I plan on paying it off and trading in the 13pro max this year to get the iPhone 14pro max. I probably will continue to always trade in my iPhone for a new one every year.

When should I pay off the iPhone 13pro max? Now?

So would the iPhone upgrade program be cheaper than buying the phone outright then trading it in?

Did anyone have any issues preordering with the iPhone upgrade program last year?

Does it effect your credit poorly if you take out the loan with citizens for the iPhone upgrade program?

Whenever you want - you'll still get trade in value despite making payments on your Apple Card for the phone.

One thing to keep in mind is that the iPhone Upgrade Plan includes the cost of Applecare+.

I've switched from the Upgrade Plan to my AppleCard because of the $ rewards and because of more flexibility / control over if I want to pay it earlier. I also plan on keeping my phone for 2 years so I look forward to selling my 13 Pro Max (paid off) next year.

My wife is still on the Upgrade Program since she gets the 256GB model and upgrades every year. I got the 1TB.

Yes, it's a credit pull to do the upgrade program (to start it). I believe it's a soft pull every year on renewal. I was on it for many years and only saw the hard pull on initial start. <shrug>.

I use IUP and have apple card too.
You said "I've switched from the Upgrade Plan to my AppleCare because of the $ rewards"
Its the same thing because I set up my apple card on citizen to auto pay monthly and get the 3% cash back as well.
Don't tie up the iPhone balance on the apple card either.

You can’t trade in towards the IUP. It’s a set monthly price. Not sure if that was a thought. I like the IUP.
Interest free and don’t have too worry about trade ins.

There will likely be a hard inquiry on your credit if you join the IUP. I've been on the IUP since the first year and have had two checks; the first year and then iPhone 12 year.

If you plan on upgrading yearly, then the IUP is probably a better value as you get a guaranteed 50% return on trade in because the balance of the loan is forgiven. If you trade it in on your own, you run the risk of getting less.

This is good to know! I hate auto pay. I assume I can still use my apple credit card to pay the citizens loan each month with out auto pay?

I have been waiting since Oct. 6 of this year to get my iPhone upgraded to the iPhone 14 Max Pro. Apple lost it and now says it will be delivered by Dec. 28. My "replacement" orders keep getting cancelled by their system and I am being billed for something I don't have. I continue to make installment payments to the bank as that loan won't be paid off bu until I return the phone I now have. I have spoken to countless representatives but absolutely nothing can be done other than to wait and see. Yesterday, I was told my replacement was waiting to be manufactured! This is the last year I will be on the upgrade program. The program itself cost me a little more in the long run that outright buying a new phone and trading it in. But it was convenient and I always had the latest model iPhone. But this year the program failed me miserably. Nothing is worth what Apple has put me through this year.

There is no way that Apple could anticipate the Covid lockdowns in China. No one who orders the Pro phones is getting it immediately. When an order is lost it would be nice if they would expedite the shipment but they have never done that. All orders go into the same queue.

The Upgrade program normally works without a hitch. It is unfortunate that you are one of the few who encountered problems.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your story with me. So sorry to hear you haven’t gotten your new 14 pro max yet. The end of the month will be here before you know it! Good luck!

Autopay is why I will not have an Apple credit card.
? I don't have autopay turned on my Apple Credit Card. (I prefer to manually pay when and how I want).

Every CC I've ever owned has had the option for autopay as well as the option not to do it. Apple CC is no different.

‘I did not know there was an option. Where can you select that? Thanks

I never set one up from the day I got it - heh.

If you go to the Apple Card, hit the "..." button on the top right hand corner next to the box(123):

Select Card Details once you hit the ... button.

From there - there is a portion that is "Payments" - for me, I never set it, but I imagine here is where you can remove it if you've added it.

Thought I was the only one who didn't like automatic payments :D

Just use a privacy.com credit card number which is tied to the specific biller once used. You can set a specific $ limit, number of transactions, etc.

Not sure why even a regular credit card should cause sleep problems. My main cards were both breached within the last year (thousands of $ charged on the opposite coast) and the bank took care of it. All I had to do is update the new credit card number for my automatic payments.

How one card number got out is a total mystery. Only used for automatic billing on one site which hasn't been compromised, otherwise never used.

Yea we always just pay manually. I'm assuming they have the option though? But it's not forced

Yea I don't like the fact that they put you at the end for things out of your control (lost, theft, defective) Cosmetic changes should wait, but you could wait to return then. They would just have to extend your window to return it to until the replacement comes.

Don't care if it is hacked. My bank and insurance would just handle it. I have actually had quite a few credit card number breaches. Saved at least an order of magnitude of time by using automatic billing vs redoing automatic payments with a new card number when they happened. The convenience of knowing all my bills - especially critical ones such as medical and insurance - are being paid automatically is far more important to me than the minor annoyance of a breach.

I did worry about it years ago but after the first breaches (Medical Insurance, Cellular carrier) were followed by many more (which continue) realized that they are unavoidable. No reason to worry about it given all the real worries we have today.

You can still get the rewards doing the upgrade program. Just do the payments with your apple card. 3% cash back on each payment. I also use to do it with the apple card and now decided to switch. One thing I noticed was the continuous balance on my card being over the 30% was taking more of a hit on my credit than the inquiry on my credit to start the upgrade program which did only a soft pull.
