Because of this potentially happening I would rather buy my iPhones outright, like I’m doing this year.
I hate selling on ebay/swappa/craigslist so I would still go for IUP.

I'd just check my carrier, Amazon and Best Buy trade in (I've found both to be hassle free) for comparison and then decide whether to use IUP or payoff and trade-in elsewhere.

Then I, as well as probably a bunch of others will stop the service. I'll switch to Verizon's similar program. That way, I can get a new Samsung or any other new device I want if Apple ever pulls this again. Already got a Note 20 Ultra on my 2nd line since my iPad is now paid for. Might not even get the 12 now, Apple messed up.

Still not sure how they messed up by being behind in production... if you like to jump between brands then carrier financing was likely better for you anyway.

What’s the big deal? It’s not like you own the phone..

This always comes up on IUP threads. Exactly how don’t you own the phone?

They messed up because they couldn't deliver their new flagship device on time when every other manufacturer could. Sad.

Luckily I waited to upgrade in Dec last year as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle that's associated with it at launch,
It's swings & roundabouts, either take your chances being 1st with a new device or sacrifice that to pay 12 months.
My thoughts as well. I was already anticipating that the 5.4” will be delayed similar to the iPhone X and XR so I got my dad the iPhone 11 in December (upgrading from a paid off iPhone 7). Went with IUP in case my dad ended up hating the bigger phone (which he does).

Not sure how that logic makes sense. You aren’t required to trade in for the next iPhone. Just gives you one more option.

I know you are not required to turn in your device for the next iPhone. I was basing it on the fact with my old carrier, I made monthly payments on my phone but they (T-Mobile) required a down payment that was $400+. With that type of down payment, I was better off paying outright.

I used Swappa once to sell my iPhone 6 and it went smooth. I’m not comfortable selling in person so I would rather trade in my device when upgrading or just pay for my device outright.
