Quick question, looked online and can’t find an answer. Tried texting Apple service but too busy with other dumb questions like mine.

if I have an 11 Pro Max and want to sign up for the IUP to purchase the 12 Pro, is there any way to trade in my current iPhone? Going through the setup, it looks identical to setting up a “normal” purchase, but the section that asks if you have a phone to trade in is missing. Not sure if that would pop up tomorrow when finalizing the order...

Thank you for your time.

And to be clear, I know there are other ways aside from Apple to trade in. I like using Apple because it’s easy.

Your question is slightly confusing as Apple as an official program they call the iPhone upgrade program. It allows you to get a new phone every year. If you have this program and you are 12 months or more into it you’ll trade in your device and it eliminates your remaining balance on the device. Roughly 50% of the device cost. I’d you are less than 50% you should be able to make extra payments to get to the 50% mark and trade in.

Did you purchase your iPhone 11 Pro through the iPhone Upgrade Program (IUP) last fall? If not, do you own it outright or do you still owe on it through a carrier payment plan?

If you purchased it through the IUP last year, they’ll send you a box so you can return it to them after you upgrade. If I remember correctly, they state this in the first step of the pre-approval process.

If you didn’t use the IUP last year, you can still trade in your 11 Pro. They’ll give you up to $450 credit for it. If you don’t own it outright and still have payments though a carrier, you’ll have to make a lump sum payment for the remaining balance.

What he's asking for, doesn't make sense either. He wants to get on IUP and use a trade in device towards the balance. He'd need to do the iPhone payment plan and not the IUP.

Yeah, true. If he didn’t get it on the IUP last year, this won’t work. If he wants to use the IUP instead of the iPhone Payment plan, he might consider selling the old one privately.

you can trade in a phone and use the apple credit to pay down the new phone.

What I don't like about Apple's plan is you have to get Apple care. I rather not pay $150 extra for my phone as I get a tough case regardless. even with apple care if you crack the screen its $100

Thanks everyone and sorry for confusion. I own my current phone outright but was seeing if I can trade it in and join this year. After thinking about it, doesn’t make sense to join since I upgrade each year and don’t carry about the upfront cost. I do miss out on Apple care+ included but can add that on if needed. No sense in taking a loan and paying monthly. Sorry to bother.

It is shaping out to seem that this is the worst year to jump into a new iUP..... depending on your carrier there are aggressive offers to be had AT&T pretty much with the most aggressive. Free iPhone 12 with trade in. If i wasn’t already on iUP i would do the free device and done iUP next year.....

Think it this way. Buying an iPhone is buying a product, like buying a computer, a furniture etc.
doing iUP is like paying for a service. You pay a certain amount of ‘service‘ fee and apple provides you with the latest iPhone with all needed warranty and such

You just need to pass the credit checks. Then you are good to go on the iUP. So make sure your credit history is good.

It seems to me it makes no sense to join this program if you upgrade every year and have the money to purchase upfront (plus get the kicker of good trade in value if you don’t beat up the phone).

maple basically pays off the other half of what’s due on your phone. Most trade in places won’t give you that much.
Apple upgrade is a no brained if you buy outright snd get Apple care anyway.

Is it true that in order to join iUP, you have to be on one of the three major carriers??
that is true. you have to be on major carrier. you can swap the sim and use other services afterward but you have to have a line on the major carrier to get it started.

screen repair/replacement is $29 flat rate with AC+
