Well the report states the obvious- that people are much more likely to download an app or game on the iphone than on other phones.

Probably. But as another example, Verizon just announced that they'd had 10 million downloads of their Shazaam-like music id BREW app in the past year. That's a lot.

Edited to add: And I think this summer for the Pre may already be too late. By then, the hype for the next iPhone being out, and the app store growing exponentially, will be too much. The Pre *just starting* an app store with a few hundred apps at a time when the iPhone store will already be over 20,000 and growing by then, will be too late.

The same exact thing was said about the iPhone starting with no apps. :)

Why huge companies like Microsoft, who have their mobile OS around for what, like 8/9 years already, couldn't just have a team set up to give WinMob a good user interface and something like the app store is beyond me.

Because, except for game handhelds, device makers have always allowed a free market in software. And Microsoft especially was probably worred about lawsuits.

As far as UI, I've banged on them for years to add more finger support instead of making developers do it alone.

It is amazing to me that the article neglected to mention that;
0% of iphone users have sent an MMS
0% of iphone users have used copy/paste
0% of iphone users have edited a word document
0% of iphone users have forwarded a text message
0% of iphone users have sent a text message to multiple recipients
0% of iphone users have zoomed in to take a picture
0% of iphone users have recorded a video, and of all those apps dowloaded,
0% of iphone users have used more than 1 application at a time on "the world's greatest smartboy phone".

Feel free to contribute to the list.

what a lame URL

we don't know if these are paid for or free games

If its free games, that 32% is a terribly low number

No brainer. I, and everyone I know, use the iPhone for calls and emails but we also use it in downtown to play games. My parents couldn't turn on a computer last year yet play and download games on the iPhone

My previous phones couldn't do 1/100th what my iPhone does
