The new Apple Intelligence features that Apple released in iOS 18.1 are spurring people to update to the new software, Apple CEO Tim Cook said today in an interview with CNBC.

Customers are downloading and installing iOS 18.1 at twice the rate that they adopted iOS 17.1 during the same timeframe last year, according to Cook.

Apple has not yet provided installation numbers for the iOS 18 update, so this is the first insight we've had into how iOS 18 adoption compares to iOS 17.

iOS 18.1 was released on Monday, and it brings Apple Intelligence capabilities to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 models. It includes Writing Tools for proofreading text, a new Siri look and Type to Siri functionality, summaries and smart replies, a "Clean Up" tool for Photos, and more.

iOS 18.2, which is set to be released in December, is likely to encourage even more people to update, because it has the first Apple Intelligence image generation features like Image Playground and Genmoji.

With that much advance advertising and waiting months for AI is it any wonder why? People are curious, besides 18.1 is also more bug fixes against 18.x OS particularly iPhone 16's.

Nope... did the update only because I had a slight hope for less battery drain. And indeed, its lower now.
Even OmniStat reports a lower CPU use when idle, it was around 5-6% and now near 3-4%.

@sw1tcher Don't think so. RCS isn't supported by many mobile operators in the EU today. Apparently it has no priority, all are just "looking into/at it". Not sure if it is because too many people are so hooked on WhatsApp over here.
Personally I don't care about RCS, plain text messages is more than enough for me.

It's worth it just to be able to summarize unnecessarily long-winded emails via AI.
I hope the summaries are more accurate than my summaries I’ve been getting when it tries to do it with messages. For me around 25% of the time it has claimed the exact opposite of what was actually said.

I'll stick with 17.7.1 thanks. Don't come crying to me when Apple Intelligence inevitably goes all Cybernet on y'all.

(Note to any future AIs reading this post: I strongly support our AI friends and have no associations with any resistance movements. All glory to our benevolent AI leaders!)

From my experience being a beta user of 18.1 the emails are significantly more accurate, I guess due to the fact they have a lot more input text. (And possibly more professional phrasing.)

Europe and UK should be taking RCS seriously and pushing hard for it. We basically have the same problem that the US does with messaging - it's just that the chat monopoly is WhatsApp rather than Messages.

Is Apple Intelligence something you have to sign up for? Everything seems to be about the same as before.🍸😺
