Marketing marketing, that's the way of the technological world.

I was wondering whether Apple has had these "new" features for a while. As many have mentioned, most smart phones have had MMS, cut/copy/paste, video recording, etc. so I'd be surprised if Apple released the iPhone without planning on releasing these features sometime down the road as it would be a bit of a gamble on not knowing if they would work in a multi-touch platform. Holding these features back and releasing them slowly seems to be a good strategy at keeping iPhone sales strong.

I'm in agreement with you. The viral marketing is working on me as I will be upgrading my iPhone later this year.

OMG!!! if this only Beta 2...!!! what would it be with the FULLY-SIZED OS 3!?!?!?
let alone the actual hardware update!!!
I am sooooooo camping outside the apple store a week before they launch the new iphone!! hehehhehe....:D

You are kidding right? What exactly would a magnetometer do other than act as a compass? It seems like Apple would want more out of something like that? Ideas? Improved GPS or Turn-by-turn?

Augmented reality. Virtual data (text, images, 3D) overlaid onto reality viewed through a camera and display. Calculated by combining GPS and compass data. It'll be so sci-fi when it's evolved. NVIDIA's CEO was asked where he thinks the future of video devices will take us. His answer was augmented reality.

Remember what they showed is only a preview, there is more to come in June plus with a new iphone, damn why does Apple always do this. :D

I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet because I only read about a page. So, sorry if it has!

What if this ability is gained from an accessory on older versions of the iPhones?

What the thing in the bottom left?

Looks like a mirror to me. To switch to the front-facing camera on the new hardware. Pretty cool.

You mean this kind of stuff in real-time?

It's cool, but I don't think it's very handy to be walking with your iPhone in front of you all the time. This is great in HUD-sunglasses, I wonder when that'll be available.

By the way, I don't think the iPhone will have the power to do this kind of stuff in real-time.

I know!!! :D

Can't wait for WWDC on June 8th!!! just to know when the iPhone is actually coming out!!! hope it's not more than a couple weeks!!

Welcome to the world of business, you don't release a product with all the functions known to mankind, you need to find a way for people to upgrade.

`lol no kidding. I was thinking that when they released the first iPhone and everyone complained about these features being absent. Given that Apple most likely had these features under wrap since day one, I wonder if Jobs and other executives/Apple wigs have been using these features on their iPhones. Just a thought.

By the way, I hope they will add a physical camera-key. Auto-focus by a touch screen will be a pain in the ass!

Besides the fact that a key on the side of the phone is a better position than on the front, and you'll be less shaky when taking a picture.

Wow. The iPhone just gets better and better!

I'm going to be jealous of all the new iPhone owners in the summer while my 3G runs out its contract.

Haha, in Japan they offer the iPhone 3Gs with one year contracts! Translation: I AM GETTING THE NEW IPHONE REGARDLESS!!! >:D

Can't see any jailbroken 3G'ers making the jump on this. Though it would be nice to have all these features officially :apple:

This statement is completely contradictory to itself. Don't you think that having these features officially will be the precise reason why at least some people un-jailbreak?.

That's like saying no one will buy the new iphone this summer because everyone will want it. Also, no one likes ice cream because it's too delicious. Better yet, no one wants to be Steve Jobs because his job is too awesome and he makes too much money and gets to play will all the Apple product concepts.

These are all the reasons why people WANT to do these things.

I'm banking on O2 allowing upgrades with an extension to the contract, just like they did when the iPhone 3G was launched.

But the original 2G iphone was not subsidized, and the 3G was. If they allow upgrades with an extension each year then they never recoup the cost of the subsidy. Even if they keep you in contract forever, they're still giving you a subsidized upgrade each year and only getting back half of that through the contract before they give you another subsidy.

Can't see any jailbroken 3G'ers making the jump on this.

You say that now... ;)

How did someone discover these files? As I understand it, the iPhone has to be jailbroken in order to SSH or get full access to the file structure, right? Does this mean when RipDEV released QuickPWN for 3.0 beta 2 that these features were discovered?

Just a guess, but I think this will be available to the "v3 iPhone" and the iPhone 3G only. Obviously the "v3 iPhone" would just have better picture quality, etc.

When Apple decided that MMS and A2DP wasn't going to be introduced to iPhone 2G, I got the impression that Apple are 'moving on' from the iPhone 2G, and wanting customers to upgrade.
