Anyone have any idea how Google Android stack up with iPhone in terms of # of users only in the States?

No idea, but I'm certain the iPhone trounces it [in terms of # of users].

I seem to recall hearing T-Mobile US only fairly recently celebrated shifting 1m G1's.

yup. in the states the only official android phone is the g1, with the mytouch 3g(magic) likely being announced later this month.
