Oh wow I’m a bit surprised by this, the a12 sold better than the galaxy s21 series?

There are several different S21 models (S21, S21+, S21 FE, S21 Ultra. etc.) which means sales could've been spread out over all of these versions. I'm not sure but I believe the A12 has just one version. It's also a fair amount cheaper than the S21 line which would make it more popular due to being more affordable.

I know, but with the iPhone is the same case, there is an iPhone 12, an iPhone 12 Pro and an iPhone pro max and all of them charted in the top 5 and none of the s21 series did

I was comparing sales of the A12 versus the S21 series. Collectively, the S21 series may have actually sold better overall but because there are several versions of those versus one (I think) of the A12, the A12 came in with higher sales. That, plus the A12's lower price likely helped too.

Who knows, perhaps the various S21 models were 6th, 7th, 8th, etc.?

Samsung has been on the top of this list for many years. But as soon as Apple finally gets to the top... your first thought is "Look out Apple... Samsung is coming for you! Run!"

These market share numbers change constantly. And Samsung smartphones don't run iOS.

So if you want an iPhone... you're gonna buy an iPhone. Apple has a unique desirable product.

But if market share is so important... what if I told you that Honda only has 7% of the worldwide automobile market?

Pathetic, right? Perhaps Honda should close all their factories and quit!

?
LOL
Actually, I think Honda has 4.3% Market Share in 2020. Toyota has around 10.2% Market Share.
Again, I know market share for these smartphones are important but I don't understand why it kept getting discussed. Usually its Samsung and Apple. Like you said, they are both unique product.

Yea, I'm amazed how many iPhone 13/13 Pros I'm seeing even in my country, where the prices are significantly marked up. The 13 lineup is definitely a huge success for Apple.

Let's see 22% on iOS, so that leaves hmmmm, math is hard, oh yah 78% on android/others. What about all those who say apple is a monopoly? By definition, you can't be a monopoly with only 22% market share. Customers do have a choice and it seems about 4 out of 5 are choosing android. So maybe Android is the monopoly?
Yeah.
People makes a lot of noise how Apple is a "monopoly," yet nobody said anything the fact that Google required OEMs to pre-install Chrome to get their Android phones certified. I remembered how Microsoft got into trouble for having Internet Explorer on Windows. I'm surprised how long Google has been getting away with this on the largest mobile platform.

This news also shows why Apple seemingly takes its time to use certain tech. When Apple decided to put something new on the iPhone, that component maker has to be able to make it in enough volume and quality. And that’s not easy.

Take Samsung’s LTPO panel. Even Samsung doesn’t need as many as Apple. It’s easy for a random Android OEM to make something fancy like periscope camera, foldables, etc. They don’t need to make as many of those phones.

Not that it matters, but adding up to 71% leaves a lot of ”rounding”.

As for 5G, I’m still on an SE without it. I stopped using public WiFi years ago and and regularly set up a hotspot on the train or in a hotel room. Fast enough for me. I look forward to a 5G phone, just not a priority.
Imo 5G, at least the more usable sub-6, is inevitable. Many countries have shut down 2G, and many will shut down 3G. This leaves most phones to be on 4G, and it will get saturated really really quickly. Transition to 5G is needed just to improve capacity, as 5G can support a ton more devices compared to 4G in the same area.

In my country, sometimes 4G can be useless since pretty much all consumer smartphones are 4G now. The towers get saturated very quickly. Sometimes I have to actually fall back to 3G to get connectivity. If 3G is shut down, 5G becomes a must-have to avoid 4G congestion.

Brand power is something special and also many are just happy with iPhones. In US lets face it iMessage is massive pull.
