Does the iPhone need to be conncected to the internet for widgets like stock, weather and maps to work?

Each will show only the last updated values and will not update without wi-fi or edge access.

The phone only needs to be on and talking to a cell tower. So no, no internet required.

    Yes

As long as the phone is on and talking to a cell tower but even if you don't have service, I believe you can view what was last downloaded.

You need to have edge or wifi to download the latest feeds

Sometimes it gets cleared out though, and when I don't have service it says something along the lines of it can't update. Happened a lot not too long after I got it back in July when I was camping on some mountain in Pennsylvania. Also in north central Ohio. Since then I've yet to lose the internets in Missouri.

    Nope, magical fairies update it.

Where would you think it gets the data from if not the Internet?

why does that matter? it can update via EDGE or WiFi (via the internet), and just like the dashboard widget, it remembers the last data, so it doesn't need a permanent connection.

It matters because the data comes from the internet not just from the magical cell tower ;)
