I've done some searching and the only half answer I can get is that you can get iPhone Wifi to work if you have previously activated the iPhone with a SIM card, and then take it out. But is there any other work around? I am trying to get Skype to work on my old first generation iPhone over Wifi for here at the house. I have the iPhone 3G for my main use. Would it hurt anything to temporarily take that iPhone's SIM card out and put it in my old one, activate it, then take it out? Will that hurt anything?

    Thanks!!

My first generation iPhone is Jailbroken, via Quickpwn.

So am I to understand you've not activated it? If not, hacktivate it with PwnageTool.

Alright, I swapped my SIM over to my old iPhone and got it activated. Sorry for the unneeded thread. Maybe this will help someone, since it appears that it is more or less required that you insert a SIM to jumpstart the Wifi to work. From that point on, you don't have to have a SIM inserted.

Exactly. I ended up just inserting my new iPhone's SIM though. The old one was activated before the 3G came out, but when I upgraded it yesterday to iPhone 2.0 firmware it deactivated it.
