it originally started as a 1619 error in 7.7 then it went to a (1) error in 7.4.2/7.5 and nothing else. iTunes will also not recognize the phone when it has the connect to itunes screen up. only when i turn it off and put the phone into what i think is DFU.

And when i say i think, its mainly because it looks like its in DFU mode but iTunes just says recovery mode.

I also tried that winstaller or whatever, it doesnt detect the iphone, and crashes when the iphone is in 'DFU' mode.

and i did the whole sim card thing and that doesnt work... so what next?

    EDIT

oh and i almost forgot... itunes is calling it an ipod for some reason...

Did you try to start the phone as if its in recovery mode? With the phone turned off and connected to your computer, turn it on while holding down the Home button. It will take 8 - 10 seconds, and then you should see "recovery mode" displayed on your iPhone screen, and iTunes will detect the mode as well. Then you'll be prompted to continue with a full restore, where your memory is reformatted and then your software reloaded, followed by a restore. It takes some time, to put it mildly.

is it on version 2.0.2? If so download the latest version on Itunes again just incase, get the latest version on pwnage(make sure you uninstall previous versions), and do the procces again. The new pwnage program is very easy to use and gives you an exact step by step guide on how to put your phone into DFU mode.
