The details are complex ... but, the short version of it is ...
Lets say, my computer stopped functioning (drive failure) and the drive I used for backups also failed. With my contact list only on my iPhone (300+ contacts) what are my options ? Keep in mind, I would need to restore the it to a blank computer that never saw my iPhone.
Now, to make things even more interesting ... I installed 3rd apps on my phone. How totally screwed am I ? Anyway to extract the contact and calendar data from the iPhone and wipe it back to a version before the new update ? That way, I can restore all my data and bring the phone up to current ? (I can wait a week for the extra apps, those are toys that are very disposable to me)
