is it possible to buy an unlocked iphone and then use it with sprint without having to buy a data plan? a friend of mine told me when you call to activate the iphone sprint automatically detects it and charges you for a data plan. is there anyway around this

thanks for the links but i am still confused, with sprint there is no sim card so how i would i get around it.

Why don't you call sprint first, just to ask them the options?

yes call sprint!! but it looks like no

From Apple web site another good place to go..

The unlocked iPhone works only on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier. or The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
