Can I buy an iphone and just use a sim card with phone and text and not be forced to also pay for the data plan? Is there any way to do this? Thank you.

At least, not right now. Complain enough (not here, AT&T's site...) and they might listen. Spell check helps, as well. Safari should have caught that one... 🙄

i live on campus so there is wifi everywhere. no need for data plan. There really is no way to do this?

I think you can cancel your data plan. I mean come on...if you decide that you don't want it later on, they can't MAKE you continue on paying for a service that you're not satisfied with.
