I'm a Canadian Mac and iPod user. I am tempted to either buy a iphone or a ipod touch. I'd prefer to buy a iphone, but I dont't plan on switching my mobile phone service provider quite yet (Telus).

If I buy the phone and unlock it, am I able to use it as a ipod touch with wifi?

Does the phone require a SIM card to opperate it's web and ipod functions?

This way I am prepared to use it as a phone when I decide on switching service providers.

The ipod touch does not have a email function...

Thanks
K

you will be required to 'activate' it first,
but then you can take the sim out...

I put activate in quotes because you will need to hack it, and use the fake activator.

Agreed ! Activate it and then run it in Airplane Mode all the time so it doesn't look for a sim.

airplane mode would also turn off your wifi and bluetooth
you could just leave the SIM in the phone and I dont think it would give you any problems (until there is a firmware update or something)
