I hooked my iPhone 3G first time to my PC laptop (Acer Ferrari) and absolutely nothing happened.

Normally I recharge it with my iMac, but would have been also nice to be able to recharge it with my laptop.

Any clues why it didn´t recharge?

Do you have iTunes installed, Apple Mobile Device Support, iTunes helper? Check the USB ports on the Windows computer and check the cable too. Do you have anourr PC in the house you can try it with?

Do you have the laptop connected to a power source? I'm not sure if it's the same for acer but my old sony vaio changes to low powered usb 2.0 when it's on battery mode. It won't charge unless the power source is connected.

Nope.

The PC did recognize it. In the lower right corner popped a message something like "iPhone detected" or something.

The laptop is always connected to the wall, I´ve never even had the battery on it.

That would be kinda strange.
