i just updated my iphone to the os 4.0 beta 3 firmware and every time i try to sync it, the back up wont process onto my iphone, anyone know how to fix this problem?

As of now, you can't back up OS 4 Beta.

Sure you can, you just have to have Xcode beta or the iPhoneSystemComponents from same installed on your Mac. It can't be done on a PC.

I've backed up my phone before installing each of the 3 betas, restored it afterward, then backed it up again. Works just fine.

I knew there was some other way using developer tools. I should have put "through iTunes" at the end.

so if i use my friends mac to back it up, i wont be able to get all of my old iphone stuff when i was on 3.1.3? the itunes i want to back it up with was on my pc

Well you still have to back up through iTunes--the Device Manager in Xcode won't let you. But installing Xcode (or the iPhoneSystemComponents.pkg that came with betas 1 and 2) modifies iTunes so it can talk to the new OS properly.
