Iphone won't do anything after white screen went black. PLEASE HELP!!

I have an Iphone 3G and one day the screen went white and I didn't know the trick to get the phone to start working so then my screen stopped working completely and went black. There is no sound coming from the phone and I have tried holding down the home button and inserting the power cord and I have also tried to restore the Iphone on Itunes to no avail. I was wondering if anyone knew any other tricks I could try or if I am just doomed to send the phone off to have it fixed. I have had the phone for about a year and 3 months, so will I have to pay the $200 plus shipping if it has to be sent off?

If a DFU restore doesn't work I think you are SOL.
