iphone won't give me a chance to type

This is an intermittent issue with both my iPad and iPhone, but I don't have any solution for it. Looking for a little help:

Sometimes when I'm in Safari, I click onto a box to type in (like a forum login page, or the box I'm typing this thread in now), and my phone will basically automatically de-select the box. I click on it to type, and the phone will kick me off of it. Not quite sure how to explain. Is this clear? What can I do to fix this super annoying little issue?

I get that sometimes too, but only on MacRumors. To get rid of it, you have to close Safari from the multitasking tray.
