iPhone won't go into DFU mode? :S

The screen IS black when you are in DFU mode. There's nothing displayed when in DFU mode, its completely blank.

but when i run redsn0w, follow the exact instructions with it's built in timer, it says it doesn't detect anything in DFU mode.

and if i did put it in DFU mode once, and kept trying, it would still stay in DFU mode, right?

used redsn0w_mac_0.9.9b5

battery died, stuck on black screen.
when plugged into the wall, nothing- no connect sound from 3GS or charging screen.
when plugged into the computer, nothing- same as above, and also no iTunes detection.

tried:
holding down power + home for 10 seconds > home for 10 sec- nothing.
holding down power for 3 sec > power + home for 10 sec > home button alone for 10 sec- nothing.
(for counting purposes, i am using a timer instead of counting in my head.)

Okay I finally got iTunes to recognize it but after restoring I got error 1015.

how did you get iTunes to recognize it ??....
My phones been dead a couple of hours...and neither DFU...nor Hard Reset seems to be working....iTunes, redsn0w & TinyUmbrella aren't recognizing the phone !!!....
