iPhone won't stay synced to iTunes!

I cannot seem to get anything accomplished with my iPhone and iTunes. Trying to sync my iphone and transfer everything completely is impossible because it keeps saying my "device has timed out". Has anyone else been getting this error? How the heck do I fix this problem?? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the lastest version, but it doesn't seem to wanna work...
