Anybody have the product red leather case for iPhone X? I'm considering getting it. Since it is a darker red, I am curious as to how it ages compared to the previous red leather cases. If anybody has the product red case, would you mind sharing some pics as to how well it has aged since you first purchased it?

Wonder how the OP, is doing.

It's continuing to wear off. Still using the case though. I like the case design, in that it leaves the bottom edge clear for swiping up and the metallic buttons. The faux blue leather is a pretty lousy product to sport an Apple logo though.

Pretty disappointing with Apple lately. The "Root" login bug with OS X a month ago, and now the undisclosed battery issues with iPhones 6-7. How far behind the Intel chips are in many of their Mac products... It's seems like they're not trying anymore.

May switch to a Sena leather case when this one gets fugly enough.

Someone who replied earlier in this thread has a red one I believe. She claimed it was doing the same thing mine is, but she was happy with it - she didn't believe it was "wearing off".

Would you be able to provide photos please? And what is your daily usage/handling of the case?

Front left pocket. Screen towards my leg. Jeans. It resides on my desk or in a car mount when I do most of my sitting. My Apple Watch has shown me how little I walk. I have averaged 5368 steps a day for the past year.

Interesting. From the photos, especially the first three, it appears the high spots are mostly blue and the low spots black. I wonder if a leather cleaner would even it out.

Are you a jean wearer as well? One thing that popped right out from the previous post was that he wore jeans and the encased phone goes in his jean pocket. In my experience with Apple cases, jeans tend to wreak havoc on them like no other material (which is one reason I use different cases based on what I wear). I suspect that’s the reason it is wearing differently than most.

That kind of wear is exactly what I would expect. If you have ever seen a dark green Brooks bicycle saddle, they wear a similar way. As the saddle ages the high friction parts turn black and the less friction parts turn a sort of green with black underneath. Personally that's exactly the look I would want in a blue leather case. If it isn't your taste then you could try another brand, but I'm just not sure there is such a thing as color that penetrates deep into leather. It might be safer to go with natural/saddle brown.

I wear jeans rarely, I’m usually just in dress pants

Thanks for the shots. They don't look like patina-ing. More like it exposes how cheap/thin the coloured coating is on the leather.

Actually 5368 steps is nothing to sneeze at. That is probably more than Most people... at least here in America. My average last year was 6,687 steps per day, but days I walk to work I’m usually putting in more than 11,000. The low average comes from weekends and days when I ride my bike.

I hear you. Same thing. I put in 6-10 hours a week on the bike. Race season starts back 1-27-18!

Awesome! That’s an early start to racing season. I raced bicycles in the 80’s and it seemed like our first race of the season was usually March. I’ve still got a late 80s lugged steel Pinarello in the basement. . These days I tend to ride my touring bike or mountain bike, but not nearly as much as I’d like to.

Dangit I’m debating on returning the cosmos blue we have. Right now we have black and saddle brown.

I might need to start pulling it out and see how it looks. Or wait a little longer and see how it looks after a few more weeks of usage with you guys

Honestly, if this kind of wear will bother you, return it. My red leather case did exactly the same thing but from my own usage I can tell you it was skin oils and dye transfer from clothes. The leather isn’t coated like car seats, for example. Some will appreciate the worn look and some will think it’s gross. Either way, it’s unavoidable.

Agreed. While I know many buy leather sofas and car seats because they are easy to clean, I think the point of buying leather clothing and accessories is because it gets more comfortable and more attractive as it wears. I remember back in the 80’s (before you could buy distressed jackets) used black leather jackets could sell for more than brand new ones that had to be broken in.

The nice thing about a natural material like leather is that many people think it looks more beautiful the more worn it gets. Grant Petersen of Rivendell Bicycle Works calls this “beausage.” Anyone who wants a case that still looks new after several months should stick to plastic.

Like BorderinOn said, people think of leather as different rather than in cases. Most leather in cars and sofas are coated with a protective cover that makes it less soft, but much "tougher." This toughness is needed in cars and sofas where people use heavily so the leather has to stand up. There is no coating like that on these leather cases, so they get dinged, scratched and colored rather easily. Be sure to keep that in mind.

So make sure you know that before trying a leather case. I know trying a $50 to see whether you like it or not is too much money, but that's the price you pay for all these cases!

Hello guys
Unfortunately, I have the same problem.

I bought a cosmos blue leather case four months ago. After just 1 days later from opening the box, I tried to clean the case and I Saw the blue color faded and black color appeared.

I thought this is just my problem but after finding this article I noticed that others have this problem.

I attached some pictures of my case.

Does anyone know that Apple will change this case for me after 4 months or not?
