OK, now that the power/lock button is now a "side" button, how do you instantly lock/sleep the phone? I know that "looking away" will lock your phone supposedly. But curently, if you have your autolock set to 2 minutes, as I do, so it won't lock/sleep while distracted with something else, on iPhone X, will it just "lock" the phone or will it put it to sleep in less than two minutes if you aren't looking at it?

With that two minute lock, when I do want to unlock, check something and then relock it in less than two minutes, I simply press the lock button and set it down, so it doesn't sit there all active for the remainder of those two minutes.

Without the lock button, how do you just "lock" it casually after a quick glance at it? Will that be one of the side button customizable options? Will it just sit there all active for the remainder of those two minutes? Will have to drill down a menu? Can I ask Siri to lock it? (not that I want to have to talk to Siri after a quick check at work.)

If I click it 5 times does it lock the phone so I need a passcode to unlock it like my 7 Plus does with iOS 11?

Click 5 times is the 'police mode.' Side and volume button gives you the slide to turn off option. But how often are you turning your phone off?

I was asking if the iPhone X has what you called police mode. And I don't turn off my phone but every other day or so.

Is the "side button" a mechanical button, virtual button or a mixture of both?

On Twitter, some of those who attended the keynote have stated that the side button is an actual (mechanical) button - not a virtual button like the home button on the iPhones 7 and 8.

iOS 11 in addition to the shutdown process of holding the buttons down for shutdown added a shutdown option in the settings for all iOS devices.
