So I bought a cheapish case (with good reviews) from Amazon for my iPhone X, and I'm not sure if it's the case or just a fault in general. The case isn't very snug which might be the reason but regardless, the silver bezel on my phone has hundreds of tiny scratches on now that don't seem to wipe away.

Obviously it's not a huge problem, as the case covers them up and besides this the phone is perfect. Just wondering if anyone else had the same issues.

Have the phone from 3 Nov without a case or any protection and the phone is intact. No scratches whatsoever.

Since it's stainless steel you should be able to remove the scratches with a polish. Try to look in apple watch forum.

That’s grim, dude. Honestly don’t want to take off my case again to see if I’m the same. I’ve taken it off only once before for the screen protector fitting and the bezels were still perfect.

You’re not the first, though.

My guess is the case that you were using caused the scratches, from not being properly fitted and rubbing against the Stainless bands.

I would recommend a Cape Cod Cloth. It will easily removed the scratches for The most part and is very easy to use. In this instance, where the scratches are located, I would avoid any type of polish, because it's near the lightning port and speaker holes, where you would not want to have any polish residue lodged in there.

It’s stainless it’s going to scratch.

The finish is too shiny and polished, compared with the matte finish on the iPhone 4/4s steel frame. Shiny and polished makes even the smallest scratch and scuff readily visible.

Just wait till it reaches it's final form!

Stainless steel scratches, its simple as that. I have a case on my phone, but the bottom is exposed and I fully expect it to get scratched. Perhaps I'll get that polishing cloth at some point but right now I can't be bothered.

That looks even worse than jet black iPhone

Neither of those look bad though... that's just natural progression of metal, frequently handled and used devices. Apple devices aren't magical... they are like any other tool and will age similarly. Material properties, laws of nature and all.

Yikes, that looks bad. This is why I don’t put expensive phones in cheap cases—though there are plenty of pricey cases that would do the same.

Make sure you note that in your review!

I was afraid that would happen, but so far no micro scratches to report. And being 2 weeks in I just throw it anywhere now lol

They refunded me for the case at least
I bought iPhone x space grey and to my surprise the paint on the bazel is chipping off and I can see the silver body under it its very tiny but its there. I went to apple store they said they can't do anything unless there is a quality program launched for this issue. So I'm kinda stuck with this for now.

Did you have it in a case? Or using it naked?

I don't understand how so many people, in general, have had issues with their iPhones; since having a 4S, 5S, 6 Plus and now an X, I've yet to experience any issues or need for an exchange. Why is that?

Be careful what you read though. On a tech forum, this is the place where everyone comes to congregate about issues they experience, concerns or defects with their iPhones. It's not really a measurement of the other millions of iPhones that likely may or may not exchange for similar issues On here.

... and you're surprised? Stainless will scratch, painted stainless will chip off. Pick your poison lol... or just live with it ;):)

Get an Apple case!

Inside is of suede material and to the naked eye no noticeable scratching. Rip out a black light and ehhhh, you may not like what you find. But overall any case with a suede or micro fiber interior should be fine.

Someone posted that the coating used on the bezel of the space gray is what's called PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition), a smilier process used by Panerai, an expensive watch brand. The PVD is heated.

  • PVD or Physical Vapor Deposition, is a process which vaporizes a number of metals, and then binds it on a surface, in layers, in a heated vaccuum.
