Hello all,
This post is in reference to the black screen (unresponsive) issue found on the iPhone X. On Friday night my iPhone X magically died with a black screen . after doing some digging, I found a few of the three-button hard reset fixes, Youtube guides, internet articles. Nothing worked. Plugging in to iTunes did nothing. I went to my local Apple Store to which they replaced my iPhone X under warranty.

The iPhone was a 1 year old 256 GB Silver running iOS 12.1. The below notes are from the Apple employee's findings. I'm still a bit curious of what caused this. Hardware failure? A12 went nuts. Battery? Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Issue: Customer reports device will not power on.

Steps to Reproduce: Observed at bar.

Hard reset had no results, connected to kg power adapter and hard reset, no power.

Unit not recognized in iTunes, can not DFU.

Customer has backup, understands risk of data loss during repair, auth repair.

Cosmetic Condition: No visible damage.

No liquid damage evident, external LCI not tripped.

Im glad to hear that you now have a working device again. Its difficult to determine the cause without the device being fully disassembled and all parts tested. You could speculate that the logic board may have been the cause (circuitry etc). I do not believe it was a battery issue as they've tried plugging it into a known good power source and still the device failed to boot. I wouldnt worry about it too much. Although rare, these things can happen no matter the device or manufacturer, thats why warranties exist to begin with. Always good practice to backup your data regularly. Wishing you all the best with your replacement phone.

My friends device did the exact same thing. She took it and and got a replacement also. Sucks but it happens. Glad it worked out for you.

I have the exact problem. Mine just went black on it's own. The phone is 1 year and 50 days old. a $1200 paper weight. I took it in to the Genius Bar and received the same report. The phone has never seen any water and never was dropped. They offered me to buy a replacement for $549 plus tax. The question I have to ask myself is, "If this is the type of quality for premium product why would I buy it again. If I do I will be over $1700 in the hole for a phone that may only last a year." I have been using iphones for years and never had one of them ever just die on it's own. I am also quite pissed that they said I should have bought Apple Care. Apple simply does not stand behind their product. If I buy the replacement I will always wonder when it break again to lose all my data. Basically buying Apple Care for life. It is extremely said to see a great company come to the end. Apple needs to retool quickly. Once the reputation is ruin there are no marketing that will resolve it's image.
