...and now I’m concerned that I won’t be able to return my daughter’s old phone in time to make the 14 day deadline.

The estimated ship date was December 12th, and my daughter gets back home the 19th, so I assumed there would be time. I’m sure I’m in the minority of being disappointed with getting an iPhone X early.

I think my only options are to either:
1. Return the iPhone X to cancel the upgrade and then repurchase it when she arrives.
Or:
2. Mail the IPhone X to my daughter so that she can do the return of her old phone.

Is there any other option?

Thanks.
[doublepost=1512514133][/doublepost]P.S. I haven’t received the trade-in kit yet.

Sounds like talking to Apple/carrier (depending on who is expecting the trade-in) might be the safest way to go at this point.

Ok thanks. I didn’t go through my carrier so I guess I will contact Apple. Just wondered if anyone else had gone through this already. I kind of doubt they will give an extension.

They do have an extended holiday return period in effect, I wonder how that might apply to trade-ins given that people have more time to simply return their device, in which case they won't have something to go back to if they already sent in their trade-in.

I was wondering the same thing! I will update if I find out.

In the same boat - ordered X for my daughter last Thursday and it arrives this evening. Trade-in kit also on truck.
Supposed to return her old phone by 12/20. I think you can extend the time for return but you have to call Apple, request another Trade-in kit, make another monthly payment on prior phone - then you might be good to go. Seems like a lot of hassle to go through for only that reason of shipping so early!

are the expanded holiday trade in dates available for upgraded phones?

Does that apply to the trade-in as well?

Holiday return period starts with Nov 15 delivery thru Jan 8 return deadline, according to link provided by Apple chat.

Did see one launch-day recipient say a kindly Apple store manager over rode system to allow return of launch-day delivery when returned to purchase sim free today. might be worth trying.

Apple might. Especially given the return holiday policy into effect, it likely depends on who you speak with as well.

I got an email from Apple saying my trade-in kit is on the way. It says:

“Please use it to send the iPhone to Apple no later than December 22, 2017 so we can close the associated loan and cancel the AppleCare+ coverage.”

It’s not totally clear to me whether they mean they must receive it by Dec 22 or I must send it by Dec 22. If it’s the latter (which it seems like it is, if I’m to take them literally), then I think we’ll be fine.

I called Apple today and they are getting an extension for the trade-in kit (or I'll have to request another trade-in kit). They are supposed to email me in 1 to 3 days but no worries about return until after Christmas.

Apple granted an extension through December 31st - as long as the trade-in kit phone is mailed back to Apple by Dec. 31st all is good.

I had the most amazing Apple rep that called today and she really was fantastic at customer service - it was so impressive. That's all I can say for the time being.

It's the latter - it must be shipped / post-marked by Dec 22nd (unless you call and get an extension). But, it sounds like you have a couple days to spare with your daughter coming home on the 19th, so you should be good. :)
