Anyone else dislike the vertical placement of the camera on the back?

I'm still contemplating the 8+ or the X and the design of the camera placement really bothers me. I know the simple answer is, so don't buy it. However, buying the 8+ doesn't seem that much of an upgrade to me.

I don't like the bump on the back, be it vertical or horizontal. It ruins the sleek design. I do dislike the vertical placement a little less though. Just a little.
This.

Pretty much have not liked the camera bump since it's introduction with the 6. IMO it's just gotten worse and more bulbous with each new iPhone launch.

If the original two-lens iPhone camera had been placed vertically and then changed this year to a horizontal orientation, people would complain about it. People don't like change.

I understand people that don't like change in general but if it's a better design then more people would buy it. Theoretically....

What I like about the X's camera is that they moved the flash and mic between the two cameras, so when you put a case on, it hugs the camera bump perfectly.

The camera bump is vertical due to the internal engineering requiring it, but personally I think it looks better because it follows the design of the iPhone more, due to length/width ratio.

I wish I could rationalize your view point so I'd be more pleased with purchasing the iPhone X however I feel like it's a horizontal design so it flows better by being placed horizontally.

It's more pleasing to the eye, design wise. The vertical orientation interferes with the 'breathing' space of the Apple logo.

So it's not technically better, just more aesthetically pleasing to some people.

Like I said previously, if the camera housing was going from vertical to horizontal this year, people would complain. I'm almost 62, and I'm not nearly as "set in my ways" as some folks here! :D

uhhhhh - iPhone 7 Plus users already have a 'vertical' camera arrangement so-to-speak...

If you want to shoot landscape mode with a 7 Plus you get a vertical camera arrangement.

Likewise if you shoot landscape with an iPhone X you'll get a landscape camera arrangement.

In that case the placement of the cameras is a kinda dumb discussion.

Is it just me or does it look like the camera bump got even bigger than previous iphones? Even though the X got thicker...
Feels like they didn't even try this time

You're right. It does look larger on the iPhone X. I can't believe I'm paying over a thousand for a new iPhone that I'm not entirely pleased with.

Think of it this way: 90 percent of the time you'll be looking at the front rather than the back of the phone, so if the cameras is the only thing that bothers you, I'd say go for the x, its front is impressive and it's what really matters at the end if the day.

Well a lot of people thought the iPhone 7 camera looked like crap too goes to show it could have been worse. My take on it is once you throw a case on the iPhone X it will look fine.

That's a good point. I'm still going to pre-order the iPhone X.

Or if we think harder we can understand why this is.

The camera module sat against nothing but the glass top bezel on all of the Plus models including the iPhone 8. Guess what the iPhone X camera module has inbetween it and the front glass? Display. And a 3D Touch module, and everything else that goes with the display component as a whole. Due to physics it had to protrude more despite the fact that the device is even thicker.

The front of the car looks great!

As long as you don't use the trunk and never have any reason to take a look at the rear of the car you're good!

'Cause at the end of the day what really matters is that the front of the car is where you sit!

It's ugly but it doesn't bother me much. I wish they just made the phone thicker with a bigger battery and even out the bump. Looks better and more practical. Are people really that obsessed with the thickness of their phones?

Of course. I'd rather get a car with an impressive interior and front but with not so great rear lights over a car with dull interior and front and average lookung rear lights.

The interior of the car, what you actually use most of the time is a hundred times more important than the back of the car.
