I am pretty happy with my iPhone X so far but I just noticed an issue. If the frame of the iPhone is just slightly flexed it makes a creaking noise from the top part of the phone.
I first noticed this when holding the phone with my right hand and trying to flip the ringer switch with the left hand.
I also notice it when I hold it to my ear and it gets flexed ever so slightly between my hand and my head.

Anybody else notice this? I find it worrying, especially for a $1,000+ phone that is supposed to be water resistant.

The noise could also be characterized as a pop as opposed to a creak.

If I take it to the Apple store, do you think they already have replacement units?

As AndrewR23 indicated, look at those other thread/links provided. And most Apple stores will have replacement units available set aside strictly for defective iPhones, so your Apple Store should have a replacement unit available, but if they don't, then Apple can also ship you a replacement device overnight as well.

I can’t believe it.

I took it to the apple store and had a genius check it out. He confirmed the noise and wanted to replace the phone. When he brought the new phone I told him the store was too noisy and to please check it in the back for the noise before I take it. He took it to the back and came back with yet another phone because according to him, the first replacement also made the noise.

Just arrived home with the second replacement and could immediately reproduce the noise on first try. Simply disappointing for such an expensive device.

Yup it's an apparent problem.

I'm right now on my 5th replacement, went through a slew of hardware issues and honestly never ran into such a problem in all the 10 years I've been using an iPhone.

My launch week Space Gray X was pretty much perfect, except for that little creek and pop it had when it was either slightly flexed, or the screen was cleaned with a micro fiber cloth. You could only hear it in a quite room or a place like my office without any outside noise. Honestly I was going to just live with it because I know this game, you exchange one for 1 issue, and get back another with 2 issues.

Anyway my phone went black after 3 weeks of use, meaning one day it just died and that was it for the phone! Apple couldn't get it to power back on and I had to get a replacement.
Well that started a streak of replacements with one issue after another.

Last night was my breaking point when my phone dropped LTE and it took me 3 resets to get it to come back on. Nothing would work, airplane mode was useless and after I got it to work WiFi was acting wonky. I tried everything including resetting all the network settings and eventually I just did a hard reset and it worked fine for about an hour and than it started again. Anyway after all that I went to Apple and just said I had enough, WTF is wrong with these phones? Of course I got the hero who tried everything and was just on a mission to try and fix that exact phone. I said take this phone in then back and bring me out a brand new phone, case closed. A month into owning a phone should not be this much of a headache, he was basically almost trying to not replace the phone. Long story shortened, I grabbed a manager and explained what was going on and he was mortified, I asked him directly to please take this phone in the back where it's quite and just play with the screen, flex it a little and come back and tell me what you hear. He did, came back and basically said that could be more than a harmless creak, and before getting to much further into it, took over and got me my brand new phone.

New phone has no creaks, no pops when flexed, and doesn't make any noise when the screen is touched or cleaned. Moral of the story...if your phone does exhibit that behavior or makes that creak noise id say demand a new phone because who knows what's really going on under the hood.

Wow, five replacements. Glad you finally got a solid one.

One question: Of the five phones you tried, how many made this noise?

I thought I had the perfect X but the screen made a creaking sound in the middle of the display. I was within the return period so I returned it. The new phone doesn’t make any noises but the screen isn’t as good as the one that creaked. It’s the same old Apple phone lottery.

Two

First original launch week phone that went completely dead had it slightly and really never got worse over a 3 week period.

And last replacement that had LTE, WiFi, & signal issues got horrible over the period of 6 days. When I brought it in last night it got to the point that you could replicate the noise by just using the power button. IMO this is an issue.

It's bothersome because I'm seeing a lot of threads pop up with this and I'm really hoping it's not a glass to screen issue where the glue isn't holding and the heat from the battery is loosening things up.

My first phone died out of nowhere and had that creak, my last phone began to have single issues and had the same creak and pop that got worse over a few days? Hopefully Apple addresses it!

You hit the nail on the head!!!

My new one has no creaks so far, however the whites aren't as stark white as my previous phones, and has the slightest hint of warmness where the other devices were mostly cool and just really white.

Lol whatever...Same ol BS with every Apple release, after I got off easy last year with one phone, zero headaches I thought things had changed...lmaooo, I was just a lucky lottery winner!

My 7 plus had th same thing going on. I lived with it. But would love to kno what actually causes that issue.

Phone lottery for a 1000usd phone...
[doublepost=1512763591][/doublepost]Im surprised. If 3 out of 3 phones I have tried existing this issue, there should be more people affected...

They don’t notice it or care.

My buddy from work has it and didn’t care at all.

I do recall a thread where someone reported a popping noise on the iPhone 7 near the home button, in the bezel area. And I believe someone reported that it was due to the adhesive not seated properly, causing a popping sound.

I think I remember reading through that thread. Awesome to finally kno what was going on. Thank you!
