Help, I can't work out why I can't back up this iphone X. Have never had a problem before with 5, 6, 8. Just realised that iTunes reckons "your iphone has never been backed up to this computer". Whenever I try it comes up with the message in the title. Nothing doing.

Retina iMac, High Sierra 10.13.2, iOS11.2.1, iTunes 12.7.2.58, tried with two different Apple cables (including the one that the X came with) and two different non-Apple cables, different USB ports on the back of the iMac and others. I even found a website recommending that Airplane mode be used to make sure the iPhone isn't too "busy" -- that doesn't make any difference.

Anyone else having trouble backing up an iPhone X?

found this on another site

I Quit iTunes and then went into /Library/Application Support/MobileSync and renamed the Backup folder to Backup (old). Next I launched iTunes and attempted backups for both of the devices. This created a new Backup folder with two new sub-folders. iTunes still claimed that neither device had every been backup to my computer. Finally, I downloaded a new iTunes installer from the Apple site and reinstalled iTunes. Now iTunes is reflecting backups for both devices.

might be worth a try

I was also suffering from this problem on m,y iPad Pro. Backup failed as iPad disconnected...
After having tried all the suggestions, I stumbled on this post https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8020128
which suggests deleting any apps taking up more than 3Gb.
For some reason I had Minecraft installed with 4.15Gb. Deleted it, and the problem was fixed immediately.
