Hi, I'm not sure if this a 11.1.1 issue, but, I have noticed the last few days that the Wi-Fi performance of my X is about 40% below my other iDevices.

Specifically, on a 200mbps download capability, my X will most of the time achieve either 120mbps or even down as low as 8mbps when other devices are hitting 190+

As an example, side by side, my 10.5 Pro, connected to the same Wi-Fi in the same location and the Pro is outperforming the X considerably. Similarly, my Mac achieves 200mbps+ consistently.

I have restarted the X numerous times, I have rebooted the router etc. all to no avail. I have an Airport Express 6th gen. running on my home network.

I have also found that it drops the Wi-Fi connection frequently despite the other devices being absolutely fine.

Not sure if this is a software issue, or my X is having hardware problems.

Anyone else out there with similar problems? Getting to a Genius appointment is a bit of a pain, so hoping it's software!!

It has nothing to do with Qualcomm vs. Intel.

Which chip do you have? Just curious. I'm not bashing Apple because we all know they'd cripple Qualcomm to match Intel. However, I am just poking my nose in.

What other Apple devices are you using besides the X for downloads?

I have a 10.5 iPad Pro on T-Mobile, 2017 MacBook Pro, and an iPhone X on T-Mobile.

I have two X's....they both pull around 20-35, when my iPad right next to it pulls close to 100. I have noticed this the last week, I have been trying to figure out if its somehow my routers or the phones

but it does seem to be phone related. If im in the same room with the router the X's do as expected, they pull 100 on the 5GHz network. but as soon as i leave the room, it drops. but my iPad and other devices pull 100 in the other rooms.

so it does seem to be phone related, at least in my house.

That’s exactly the issue I seem to be having. I can’t recall if I noticed this before 11.1.1 came out and therefore it was a fresh out of the box issue, or the update introduced a problem. Whatever it is, there is something not quite right with the Wi-Fi performance.

My iPhone X has distinctly worse performance on my 5 GHz network when compared to my wifes 8+, my iPad Pro 10.5 and my Macbook Pro. It is generally slower, and once I reach the fringe it tends to stop working rather than just slow down.

I’m returning mine tomorrow for an exchange. Mine drops WiFi all the time and gets a 169 ip address even though I have reserved an ip for it. Is yours getting a 169 when it drops?

My iPhone X pretty much maxes out it’s 2x2 5GHz connection over WiFi AC. My MacBook hits about 750-800mbps from my 1Gbps symmetric fiber connection, but that’s expected as it’s a 3x3 antenna. I am using a pfsense router and a netgear r7500 router configured as an access point. Speed test taken below from the room next door to the router.

If I where you I’d look at the router as potential source of problems - check that you are connected to the 5ghz band, move to 80mhz channels and make sure you’re using AC and not just N. Or possibly you have interference from other neighbouring networks in which case use a WiFi scanner app and check that your channels are free.

I made a previous thread about this before, so I'll just paste it here:

I did a screen recording of this. The WiFi signal is constantly flickering between 2-3 bars, even when I'm less than 10 ft from my router. My 7 Plus, MacBook Pro, and iPad Pro all work with 3 solid bars throughout my house. The X has been slow and unreliable in terms of WiFi performance all around. I thought maybe things would be different at my college, but I can confirm it's just as bad there too. I contacted Apple today, but they want me to do troubleshooting at home, so it'll have to wait till tomorrow.

UPDATE: Their final solution was to just get the phone replaced. Support had me run diagnostics that go straight to Apple, and they said the phone is fine. I'm not buying it though. At this point, I think it's some kind of Wi-Fi antenna issue, since this is the first generation of their new stainless steel design, and the Wi-Fi performance may've been impacted as a result. I'm just waiting a few months and then getting a replacement. Maybe they will have fixed the issue internally by then.
