iPhone X doesn't give option to unlock notes with FaceID

Has anyone else had this problem? When I try to delete a locked note, I can use FaceID to delete. But I cannot use FaceID to open anything, and I don't know what the password is.

Is this a bug?

No it’s not a bug. You have to unlock with passcode first time and then after that it will use Face ID.

So unlock with passcode first.

Mine still won't prompt for Face ID, even after the pass code entry and re-lock.

Edit: Now it is working.
