You can set the notification setting to show your notifications before you swipe up when it sees your face to unlock them . if it does not see your face , the notifications don't show. So no one can pick up your phone and see your notifications while you are away
 
That is one of the things I love about the way that Face ID works. Touch ID is so fast, I cant see my notifications on the lock screen, after I authenticate. This will be a welcome change.
 
Should be nice for those who choose not to show their notification information on the lock screen. I always thought it was extremely pointless to have notifications on the lock screen that all say "swipe to read" or whatever it says. I keep mine showing at all times.
