Curious if anyone knows if current TouchID verification within 3rd party apps will seamlessly integrate with FaceID, or will apps need to be updated to support FaceID.

There have been reports that apps use the same biometric call action to use faceID or touchID therefor apps that currently use touchID will work with faceID. Graphics and text, however will need to be updated accordingly.

Great, thanks for the info.

I know for a fact that Wells Fargo will be supporting FaceID (I had to turn TouchID on again after restoring from a backup when I downgraded from the 8+ to the 7+ while I await my X... Anyways, the email I received from them said, "You have successfully enabled TouchID / FaceID..."

Hopefully Chase and US Bank, (and others) will also support it without being morons about it.

I've read during after the keynote that all Touch ID supported apps will support Face ID.

The app wouldn't know any better - It just asks the phone for a authentication and the security enclave provides that - Touch ID or Face ID.

I hope that's the case as my local bank took 4 WHOLE YEARS to bring out support for the Touch ID.

Yes, that's kinda sorta true. If you do NOTHING, it'll work. However, you can actually query the phone and ask it if it supports TouchID or if it supports FaceID, and with that knowledge, either allow or disallow the biometric unlock.

So, while it WILL be transparent, banks can also choose to go out of their way to make it NOT work.

My credit union just added it earlier this year! Talk about frustrating.

They also just added Apple Pay last month!

I can tell you this is not a guarantee as I got my iPhone X today and I have several apps that I had enabled for TouchID that do not work for FaceID. When I go into the settings of each app they say my device does not support TouchID so the option to enable it (or FaceID) does not exist.

That sucks.

I purposely went into several apps that need biometric verification, and all of them asked if I wanted to use Face ID from now on. Some needed the passwords before allowing it, but all offered it.

I haven’t used all of them, but I went into all of my financial services apps and 1Password, Plus eBay and a couple of others.
