Ok, so I'm still on iPhone 6 ready to upgrade and so I waited to see the X in person before making a final decision. Was leaning towards 8 anyway but wanted to try them both and see which one I like more.
I gotta say, that playing with X made me realise that I am not happy with Apple and what they did. Why? Well, here are my reason (good and bad)
1) its very expensive
2) the notch - if the background is dark then its not a massive problem but as soon as you swipe to white background (like mail) its there and its annoying. It feels like I have a sticker on the phone that is blocking the display. Just not a fan of it. I did LOVE when I watched a movie and had the movie in the small factor so I got black bars on either sides. That looked visually nice and elegant. If the notch was solved like that I would be fine
3) the display - the size is big and its nice, but what I didn't like is the colour shifting. First I thought it was something to do with true tone but the other article mentioned that its a property of OLED so nope.
4) no button - i know it takes some time to getting used to it but I actually didn't like how certain things behave. Ie. to bring opened apps i have to swipe up and hold - that kinda was a bit too slow
Design etc. is great, the display size is super nice and its great to see better use of space but in all honesty, I'm not really ready to support Apple with this. The price & the notch are the main reasons - the rest I could maybe live with but not THE NOTCH and the price!
So, as a result I'm going to buy iPhone 8 tomorrow and see how this game pans out in 2-3 years again. I hope Apple will see that that price tag is just crazy for certain people and will align it with the rest next year or the year after. Sorry but £1150 for an iPhone is just way too much.
On the other hand, its a great concept and I like that we will see better products soon. iPhone X might be technological marvel right now but I don't like how its implemented so its a pass for me. iPhone 8 it is
Anyone else feels the same?
