I went from the 7 plus to the X about 2 weeks ago. My first impression was that the phone was amazing. It took a while to get used to the new form factor, but nothing unusual. TBH it felt a lot like moving from 6 plus to 7 plus with the fixed home button: After a few days you just get used to the new up swipe, and the old button feels weird. This is how I feel the majority of the time when using the new gestures to navigate around.

There is 1 glaring exception: Swipe to go home is super annoying when using an app that locks to fullscreen landscape mode. (Think games). Now I have to swipe from what is the side of the phone, and I have to do it twice like you used to have to do to open control center. The double swipe is annoying enough, but when the phone is in a case, (apple leather case) the side of the screen swipe is hard to reliably trigger. I routinely fail during my first attempt to go home or activate the task switcher in this situation. There has to be a better way...

Get a thinner case or one without a lip.

Seriously, the phone feels much better without that horrible lip.

I had an Apple leather case and returned it.

I hate the button on my iPad now, just feels really cumbersome.

It's just software though, it can be changed.

I'd rather have a slight lip that protects the screen if it's ever face down for whatever reason. If you want the phone to feel its best, don't use a case at all.

I don’t use a case now, just a sleeve.

My wife has a thin case with no lip. She protects the screen by being careful.

The Lip has saved me on many occasions with my earlier phones, smashing the screen is inevitable for me without it... I hope they rethink the software.

*edit* and come to think of it a fundamental os feature shouldn't be rendered unusable by an official Apple accessory. It's not like I have the phone in an Otterbox. If the gesture is unreliable with the apple case, either the case should be redesigned, or the interaction.
