anyone have any insight on if I store pickup will be an option? I know they will have some available for walk in customers, but ideally I’d like to preorder this Friday and get to my select Apple store at 7am on launch day with my iPhone X reserved. Basically avoid camping but still get my iPhone bright and early on launch day.

Nobody knows at this point but if the release of the iphone 8 is any indication, it is likely. Besides, if you check the Apple ordering page you will see the option to pick-up in-store but it's greyed out in the meantime obviously.

I find it strange apple allow walk in purchase this time. I have a feeling initial stock is very limited indeed. It could be showing 1-2 weeks to ship when online pre order starts. Most people will go line up at stores and create another marketing buzz. I hope not, finger crossed.

The fact that ordering online for in-store pickup would be convenient to the customer, Apple would not allow this.

Does in store pick up charge / authorize your card for the full amount?

this slightly bothers me.

All we have ben hearing so far is the significant stock shortages and how hard its going to be to get one. Now we are told theres going to be stock at stores. My assumption was there wouldnt or couldnt be. This seems like its designed for one thing only - publicity. They didnt get the traditional huge queues for the 8 launch... so they are making sure they get huge queues for the X. A lot of people seem to like the queueing and prefer that approach to pre-ordering online. They are dangling quite the carrot here - though surely there wont be many available at each store.

Personally I wouldnt queue - but I recall the worst launch recently was for the 5s - the pre-order process only opened the same day as they arrived in store - so there was little point in the pre-order as you didnt get the phone for at least a week or so after it was available. Thankfully they haven't done that since.

I wonder what sacrifices have been made to ensure this 'store availability' - its still a worldwide simultaneous launch. Maybe the online pre-orders will be at the back of a very long queue!

I spoke with an Apple rep a while back about this. Just because its there doesn't mean it will be available. When pre-orders open it could still say in-store pickup unavailable. You'll only find out if in-store pickup is an option on pre-order day.

Side note to the thread: could somebody tell me if it’s possible to order for in-store pickup and join the iPhone Upgrade Program if I’m on T-Mobile? Will there be an option to pickup then enroll in store, or would I order a full price phone then ask to enroll once I’m in store?

Yea tell me about it! I'm getting the 256GB for the wife & I, but I will also get the 64GB on the 3rd for the kids XMAS gift. If I can get them now, then I wont have to worry about a 2018 delivery.

Of course this is the plan. If I cant get both 256GB on the 27th, then the kids are SOL, lol!

I’m trying to figure this out as well but nobody seems to know. I’m worried since in-store pick up usually charges your card before you pick up the item. Not sure if they would be willing to let us refund and rebuy...

How many people are going to que up when they do not get a launch day order. I feel like the apple stores are going to be a zoo next week.

I have a feeling we’re unable to do this. I checked to see if I could do it for the 8 and there was no such option, just told me to go to a store.

And a local Apple store employee says you’re right about not being able to rebuy, says “the IMEI would be burned.” But I have read conflicting stories.

Looks like I’ll be camping out, just to be safe. :)

I will definitely get in line if I don’t preorder for a lunch day delivery. In previous years I’ve camped out for 2+ days for a couple of the earlier iPhones... but preordering is definitely preferred haha
