I was thinking about this the other day. No way to use FaceID if it's docked and pointing away from you. Also, app switching on the go is a questin mark for me (no home button to double tap.) I'm sure Apple's suggestion would be to buy a new car with Car Play...or an Apple Watch.

What do you need to do with the phone if you can’t look at it or ask Siri, seriously?

Switch podcasts/streaming audio/music or fast forward through commercials. I am looking at the phone but the way my dock is mounted the phone isn't pointed at my face so I'm pretty sure FaceID won't work while I'm driving. A lot of times I have navigation running so I need to multi task to get back to the audio player.

If you can see it, it can see you. That's the promise.

Besides, with nav you would already have it unlocked.

I have my doubts that it will work with my phone mounted like this. And I don't use nav if I'm just running an errand. That was a separate issue (multi-tasking without a home button.)

You swipe at the bottom to switch between apps. Down near where the home bar is, you just swipe left or right to switch to the most recent app.

Or you swipe up halfway to get to the app switcher.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Qi charger in some cars? My Avalon is equipped with one and I was wondering how it would compare with other Qi chargers? Perhaps someone has used it with an iPhone 8?

Depends on your usage. I have been using a lightning adapter to charge my phone and get audio into the stereo Aux input of my older MINI Cooper. My wife has CarPlay in her 2017 Honda that connects via lightning. Neither of us would benefit from Qi charging in the car since we both need wires to connect to the infotainment. Some people may be able to use Bluetooth, but wireless CarPlay is a rarity. Personally, unless you are using Bluetooth for audio, it seems like Qi charging might have limited uses in the car until wireless CarPlay gains traction.

Lexus/Toyota doesn't have CarPlay, they use their system called Entunes (which isn't that great). However, Siri, Phone, Music, Messages (receive not send) all connect via Bluetooth. The only thing I have used the cable for is charging. So I think it will be more convenient that now I just lay the phone in the supplied Qi charger.

Definitely. It’s a first world problem, but it can be a bit of a hassle to have to plug and unplug the phone when we get in and out of the car.
