I just noticed that my mute switch is a bit loose when its not muted. I don't use it at all and always have it on the not muted position so it seems weird that it has a bit of wiggle. Does it get more loose over time if you use it a lot?
I saw a few others on MR who had the same issue as you. It is very uncommon, but I would recommend taking it to Apple .

That's not necessarily accurate. It's actually more common for all iPhones (And the X) to Have variable tolerances for components, which makes some switches tighter or have more play. My mute switch also has play when not engaged, but It also differs from my other iPhones. But I believe the OP should contact Apple to ensure what they recommend. Some are just more prone to noticing these types tolerances over others.
I compared to my co workers iPhone X and his didnt have any wiggle. I wouldn’t mind exchanging it for a wiggle free one but I already exchanged my phone few times because of dust in camera problems and kind of tired of going back to the Apple store haha. I should probably just live with it instead of exchanging and potentially receive another dust in camera phone.
Which goes to show how every iPhone will differ in specification and tolerance, which is all relative, but variable. What you could do, is make a Genius appointment and have Apple inspect it. However, if you exchange it, then you have the possibility of finding other defects with dust, etc. If you think it's tolerable, then I would keep it as long as you deem it Suitable. But no to iPhones will share the same tolerances with buttons, mute switches, dust under the canes lens cover, etc.
